Our first objective is to develop each student's practical communication abilities in the chose language. First we focus on talking and listening with understanding. Then we introduce reading and writing (to avoid building up knowledge that has no link with effective communication).
On the first day, students with some knowledge take a short test to determine their level of achievement. Based on the results of this test, we place each student in the group that best approximates his or her language level. This helps to reduce differences in language proficiency among members of a class.
We achieve this goal using a broad range of materials: structured grammar exercises including verbal and written replication; simulations; comprehension of written and spoken texts or radio broadcasts based on current affairs in economy, politics and society; interactive role-plays and games; interviews and music.
